Hi Amy (and saw friends),
I just want to give you a heads up on the 6th annual Musical Saw Festival in NYC:
We have a date - Saturday, July 5th.
The reason for this date is that this is when sawist Nicholas Bardach of Germany will be in NYC (touring with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra where he is the percussionist).
At the Musical Saw Festival Nicholas will give a presentation spoofing classical music with the saw.
Also at the festival there will be a presentation of the musical saw as an ensemble instrument: this is the first time we will have live musicians accompanying the saw - piano, 2 singers and a handbell choir!
The world premier of a new piece composed for the saw will be part of the festival, and the 'Chorus of the Saws' (all sawists playing together) will be accompanied by a church organ.
An art exhibition featuring the musical saw in paintings and a video installation is also planned for the festival.
So, I think this year the festival will be even more exciting than ever!
Many of the best saw players from around the world come to the Saw Festival (we had sawists from India, China, Canada and Japan, as well as from around the USA) and many are returning to the Saw Festival this year. Come to the saw festival and see/hear, socialize, perform, learn from and play with some of the best saw players in the world!
So, please put the date of the Musical Saw Festival on your calendar: Saturday, July 5th.
If you are traveling to NYC, you could also plan to spend the 4th of July weekend in Manhattan (and see the famous Macy's 4th of July fireworks live!).

I hope you can come to the saw Festival, and I look forward to meeting you!
All the best,
Natalia 'Saw Lady' Paruz

Re: Musical Saw Festival in NYC - update
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 12:29 AMOh, this sounds so wonderful. It also seems so different from the Santa Cruz festival!
The NY festival is in a church, with an organ accompanist, and what sounds like a leaning towards classical music.
The CA festival is in a redwood tree park, with an inclination towards traditional American Roots music, and the Chorus of Saws is anchored by accordion. (Art Peterson, who is terrific.)
I wish I could go to both, to compare and contrast.
Please, Natalia, report back with details about the NY fest! -
