Saw Fest This Weekend!

I won't be able to make it this year, but I went the last three years, and always had a great time. Lovely setting, tremendously nice people, saw-players from around the world, a "Saw-Off" contest, and great live music throughout the day.

If any of you make it, please let us know how it went!

Learning Technique

Hi All
I have just started learning to play the saw and I have been working away at it for about 3 weeks now. The information on this tribe and around the internet has really helped me to get the technique down.

So far I have learned to bow and I can change notes fairly consistently but the problem I’m now having is what to do next. I have been trying to play along with my boy friend when he plays the guitar , and I can usually harmonize with what he is playing. But are there any specific exercise that help. I have thought about asking a friend with a piano to record some scales on a tape for me so I can practice with those but other than that I’m a bit lost.

Any help or even just hits would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jane

Charlie Blacklock

From Morgan Cowin, President, International Musical Saw Association:

I am saddened to inform you of the passing of a GIANT in the world-wide musical saw community... Charlie Blacklock died early Friday morning, April 18th, 2008 at the age of 91. Charlie’s grandson and IMSA Secretary Treasurer Kenny Blacklock called me this morning to tell me. I have talked also with Art Peterson, our IMSA Vice President and major contributor who was a VERY close friend and musical associate of Charlie’s for MANY years – and he is as devastated as Charlie’s family, myself, and his many friends in the musical saw, fiddlers, bluegrass and harmonica communities.

In case you don’t know the history, Charlie was an excellent saw player, who in 1991 started the California Saw Players Association (CSPA), and produced the annual Saw Festivals in and around Santa Cruz until his health began to fail at the end of 2002, when I (as Vice President) took over. With Charlie’s approval, we changed the name to the International Musical Saw Association in early 2003. Charlie (with Viola’s help) also designed, produced and sold his own line of musical saws – the C. Blacklock Special saws (still available through Lark in The Morning & Elderly Instruments.

Charlie was inducted into the American Old-Time Country Music Hall of Fame on September 5, 1999 and attended many music festivals around the U.S. including the annual fiddler’s gathering in Weiser, Idaho.

I will be putting a brief announcement in the upcoming issue of the Saw Player News, and a major article about Charlie and his lovely wife Viola in the following issue (after the Saw Festival).

Our hearts go out to Charlie’s family, including his sons Rodney, Kenneth & Paul, and his many grand children and great grand children.

He will be fondly remembered and missed.
Musical Saw Festival in NYC - update

Hi Amy (and saw friends),

I just want to give you a heads up on the 6th annual Musical Saw Festival in NYC:
We have a date - Saturday, July 5th.

The reason for this date is that this is when sawist Nicholas Bardach of Germany will be in NYC (touring with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra where he is the percussionist).
At the Musical Saw Festival Nicholas will give a presentation spoofing classical music with the saw.
Also at the festival there will be a presentation of the musical saw as an ensemble instrument: this is the first time we will have live musicians accompanying the saw - piano, 2 singers and a handbell choir!
The world premier of a new piece composed for the saw will be part of the festival, and the 'Chorus of the Saws' (all sawists playing together) will be accompanied by a church organ.
An art exhibition featuring the musical saw in paintings and a video installation is also planned for the festival.
So, I think this year the festival will be even more exciting than ever!

Many of the best saw players from around the world come to the Saw Festival (we had sawists from India, China, Canada and Japan, as well as from around the USA) and many are returning to the Saw Festival this year. Come to the saw festival and see/hear, socialize, perform, learn from and play with some of the best saw players in the world!

So, please put the date of the Musical Saw Festival on your calendar: Saturday, July 5th.
If you are traveling to NYC, you could also plan to spend the 4th of July weekend in Manhattan (and see the famous Macy's 4th of July fireworks live!).

For more info about the festival: http://www.sawlady.com/musicalsawfestival.htm

I hope you can come to the saw Festival, and I look forward to meeting you!

All the best,

Natalia 'Saw Lady' Paruz

I can't wait to sit in for a few songs with the incredible and versatile 5¢ Coffee at their CD Release party.

________________

Cut-n-pasted from out very own Doodlz LaRue:

That's right...our debut album Bourbon and Beans is finally ready!!

Come on down and get your copy on Saturday February 9th or, if you can't stand waiting that long, you can purchase a copy online from our website: www.fivecentcoffee.com

Duck on Bike, our extraordinary manager has set up an all star party in San Francisco at the fabulous Plough and Stars on Clement St, and we're thrilled to be sharing the stage with some of the people who have helped us along these past two years -- the ukulele and jug band community in the Bay Area is hands down, the most friendly and warm bunch of people on the planet. It is these sort of folks who we drew on to perform last year's "Everything' a Dollar in this Box - The Songs of Tom Waits on Cheap Instruments" -- the show turned out to be a hit, and we can thank our musical community of friends for that. From "Uke-y Stardust" to the SF Jugband Festival, we've been lucky enough to be included on the bill with such local luminaries as Tippy Canoe, the Uke Apocalypse, Dogs in Doublets, Hobohemian's Boxcar Band, Just Henry, Liquor Cake, Amy Zing, and The Goat Family. So we've asked them to come out and play a few tunes for us! Woohoo!

We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your support and hope you'll join us in celebrating our CD release! (We're going to put the party back in "CD Release Party")!

Here's how it will go down: We'll have an all star opening set and then... drum roll please....

5 Cent Coffee will the play the entire (soon to be legendary) album "Bourbon and Beans" from start to finish on ukulele!

Ohhhh! Ahhhh!

The All-star opening set features:
Dan Briggs' Dogs in Doublets
Liquor Cake
Amy Zing
Just Henry
Hobohemian's Boxcar Band
Tippy Canoe
Kelly McCubbin, (The Uke Apocalypse)
The Goat Family

LIVE @
The Plough and Stars
116 Clement st.
San Francisco, CA

I'm so excited to get a new saw for christmastime. Anyone have recommendations based on their favs? I've been looking at the 30 or 32" sanviks. . . but it's hard to say without getting the chance to try them out.

Also, does anyone have one without teeth? I'd like to not have to check my saw whenever I travel (although i'd probably still have a hard time knowing airport security)

Thanks!

Re-posted from Saw-Lady's blog.

I love that the Saw Festival in NYC is so much the same as the Saw Festival in Santa Cruz. Sweet, slightly goofy, incredibly sincere. I love that, apparently, everyone who ever picks up a saw is required to play "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." I love the bows in the air. I love the smiles on all the saw-players' faces.

With the demise of my relationship with the Uke Apocalypse, the future of STELLA! is uncertain.

I know that I still want to play. I know that abandoning the skill I've worked so hard to acquire would be a stupid waste.

I'm interested in putting together something new, something simple, something fun. Busking or Open Mics or just sitting around on someone's back porch, seeing what comes out.

Here's the official missive from the Uke Apocalypse:
For the last time, the Ukulele Apocalypse presents...
"The Rise and Fall of Uke-y Stardust and the Spiders From Mars"

About a year ago I had a stupid idea, "We should," I thought, "get as many ukulele players as we could to play one seminal classic rock album from beginning to end." There was no question which record it should be.
This stupid idea exploded. Bands were formed, friends were made, projects grew out of projects and eventually, the whole thing had gained a life of its own. In this last year as joint productions we've performed Ukey Stardust 4 times, "Purple Rain - When Ukes Cry", "Everything's a Dollar in this Box - Tom Waits on Cheap Instruments", "Plinkity Pleasures 1 and 2" and about a zillion other gigs all around the Bay Area... it's been a crazy year...and now it's time to move on, (after all, we all do write our own songs!) but not without propping the Starman up one last time to say goodbye.
So here it is...
The show that started it all, from the creators of "Purple Rain - When Ukes Cry". It's an entire evening of David Bowie, culminating in his glam rock masterpiece, from beginning to end, on ukulele.

Featuring: 5 Cent Coffee, Just Henry, Liquor Cake and Stella!

June 16th, 2007, 9:00 P.M.
At the fabulous...

a question about (ugh) MySpace.

This goes out mainly to the Five Cent Coffee folks.

You have a MySpace page. It does not immediately send me into seizures with horrible flashing clashing graphics, as many of them do. And I see you are "friends" with Adrian Stout, which is incredibly cool. And yet MySpace in general makes me cringe with loathing.

How many people have ONLY gotten to know you/hear about you from MySpace? If you severed all other contacts, like your own website and tribe, how many people would use that as their only point of contact?

And for everyone else, I ask the same question. MySpace: waste of time, or useful evil?

A Stella Dream!

Stella has shown up in my dreams before, but usually in an "I'm not prepared, oh shit, where's my bow, that's not my bow, that's a banana"* kind of context. In my dreams, I'm a shambling doofus, unable to find my chair, my rosin, my notes.

So imagine how AWESOME it was the other night when I dreamed of playing my saw on a beach, and impressing the hell out of everyone, and then topping the whole thing off by jumping on my saw, barefoot, and riding it around in the air like the goddamned Silver Surfer.

That, my friends, is a dream I'd pay good money for.

Most of the time Kelly and I play in bars. Which is great, because, you know, it's a BAR.

We have also played at
a laundromat
a sex party
a planetarium
a comic book store
(Kelly has also played solo at a Winery and at a Spelling Bee)
and tonight, at a Storytelling event, in a warehouse, full of bawdy, ballsy, bodacious, hilariously true tales of love, licentiousness and lust.

If we are going to continue in this vein, we need more goofy and off-beat venues. A bowling alley? A bar mitzvah? A bingo night?

Any ideas?

Have I mentioned in the last ten minutes how much I LOVE Five Cent Coffee?

No?

Here: I love Five Cent Coffee. They are, in all honesty, my favorite local band to see live. Falling in with their crew is one of the best things to happen to Kelly and me*. They rock every possible sock.

After the insanely awesome and heart-rending Tom Waits tribute show, I feel honored to share a stage with them in a more intimate, cozy setting. Fittingly, in the bar where we first met.

Please join us Sunday at the Rite Spot, for some love & sugar & skiffle & spice.

Sunday, Feb 18th (Some lucky folks have Monday off from work!)

*"Me" is correct. "I" would not be. Shut up.

Kelly McCubbin, The Ukulele Apocalypse, will be celebrating the beautiful and wondrous anniversary of his birth, on Saturday, January 13th. The tireless (and possibly demented) genius behind "Uke-y Stardust" and "Purple Rain -- When Ukes Cry" will celebrate in the manner he knows best: with a uke in one hand and a well-aged scotch in the other, surrounded by friends, fans, and fellow musicians.

Join us, please, as we grace the stage of our latest venue: Isotope Comics! All your favorites will be there: Stella!, Five Cent Coffee, and Just Henry, punctuating our sets with some of your favorite numbers from the past year.

Bask in the glory of the Uke Apocalypse. Without him, where would we be?

Saturday, January 13th, 8ish
Isotope Comics (www.isotopecomics.com)
326 Fell Street @ Gough, San Francisco

"Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called LIFE...."

The man. The artist. The musican. The guitar. Well, scrap the guitar. Because we will be presenting Prince's classic, groundbreaking album, "Purple Rain," from start to finish, on ukuleles. Lots of ukuleles. More ukuleles than perhaps you've ever seen, or ever will. Sure, there will be some xylophone, saw, washboard and spoons, but really, it's all about the uke.

Featuring 5 Cent Coffee, Stella!, Just Henry, and Kitten on the Keys!

November 9th
The Rickshaw Stop
155 Fell St., SF
9 pm/$10/21+
Dressing up and singing along is not only tolerated, it is welcomed. Put on your eyeliner and frilly shirt, put your hands in the air, and say it with me......... "I Would Die 4 Uke!"

So. The Ireland's 32 gig was one I looked forward to a LOT. Opening for Plasterkatz, new songs, Halloween-y delights and such.

Unfortunately, it was not great, due to nerves and a broken uke string.

But we looked good, and that's the most important part.

New pictures in the gallery, and a big thanks to Holly for sharing them.

Your favorite uke-and-saw combo will be in a flurry of activity in late October-early November. A FLURRY, I say!

On October 27th, we will have the unbelievable privilege of opening for Plasterkatz at Ireland's 32. Plasterkatz is an incredible bunch of multi-tasking musicians: everything from guitar to uke to mandolin, sax to flute to slide whistle. You could probably bring a cookie sheet and a bowl full of peanuts to a Plasterkatz show, and they'd find a way to rock it.

Quasi-retro blues-rockin' alterna-folk music for the 21st century!
3920 Geary Blvd at 3rd Ave in SF's Richmond District.
http://plasterkatz.tribe.net/

Then, November 3rd, The Knock-Out Uke Out! Featuring all your favorites from Uke-y Stardust. Tippy Canoe, Uni and her Ukulele, Megan Lynch, Just Henry, 5 Cent Coffee, and STELLA! Head to head, fret to fret, we'll be uking with our dukes out, you can bet!!
The Knockout
3223 Mission Street, SF (www.theknockoutsf.com)

And then, THEN, the big one. The one you've heard about for months on end: "Purple Rain - When Ukes Cry". Prince's incredible, ground-breaking, genius album, "Purple Rain," from start to finish, on ukulele. Featuring 5 Cent Coffee, Just Henry, STELLA!, plus veryvery special guests Kitten on the Keys and Koz! If you miss this one, you might as well set up the automatic-kicking-machine right now, because your friends will never stop talking about it. November 9th, 9 p.m., The Rickshaw Stop, in Hayes Valley, 155 Fell St, San Francisco. Advance tickets available (Yes, it's THAT serious) from www.rickshawstop.com.

Come see us!

I thoroughly recommend this product and/or service, although I most likely will not be able to go. If ever I needed 7-league boots, this Friday night would be when I needed them the most.

Max, of the Hellouts, is a super-cool fellow we met at Saw Fest, and I'd LOVE to see what his band is all about. Check 'em out, and see if he can shred. (Get it -- saw? shred? Har dee har.)

October, 6 2006
"Super Bluegrass Weekend" w/ Huckleberry Flint, The Hellouts, Dave Hanley Band, Barefoot Nellies
Starry Plough, Berkeley, CA 94701
Cost: $10.00

I finally got around to posting photos from last month's Saw Fest, in Santa Cruz. I love the shots of ALL the saw-players crammed onto one small stage -- you have no idea how hilarious and chaotic and beautiful it is to be surrounded by two dozen people with very dangerous instruments, warbling through "Beautiful Dreamer" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

And AND -- the girly T-shirts are here! They're so cute, I want to wear all of them at once. Let me know if you want one. American Apparell, size S, M, L, XL. Price is totally negotiable.

Drink up every drop of the cheap musical stylings of 5 Cent Coffee! Ukulele driven, grumpy hat wearin' , washboard slingin' dirty old songs that only Slick McCoy, Doodles LaRue and Smitty "Spitshine" DeLaCroix can dole out...

I ADORE customink.com. Incredible customer service, fast and reliable turnaound time.

After getting dicked over by another T-shirt company, CustomInk saved my ass, held my hand, and provided me with really awesome, high-quality, gorgeous T-shirts. I got a bunch of Men's T-shirts in various sizes, and they are almost GONE.

So I need to order more. And this one's for the ladies.

Heeeeyyy, Ladies! What are you most likely to buy/wear?

• A black American Apparel Girly T
• A white American Apparel Girly T
• A white American Apparel Spaghetti Tank
• A black American Apperal Spaghetti Tank

Personally, I'd go for the black Tank. But I don't want to order a bunch of shirts for ME, y'know?

Let me know. I want to order the new batch SOON. Your vote counts!

And if you're thinking of ordering your own shirts, go here.

Saw Fest 2006!

Good: Seeing a few folks we knew from last year, and getting to know them better

Not-So-Good: Crappy hotel room with paper-thin ceilings and drunken louts stomping around upstairs half the night

Good: Getting to play on the Main Stage in front of some of the world's best saw-players

Not-So-Good: Feeling like I flubbed and squeaked a lot

Good: No one seemed to notice

Not-So-Good: Kelly wrenching his back/shoulder in the shower and having to deal with PAIN all day

Good: He's still a total trooper and charmed the hell out of everybody

Awesome: People really seemed to like what we do. They LOVED "Moonage Daydream." Even without the effects pedal!

Sublime: The Chorus of Saws, where all 30-odd (and I do mean "odd") saw-players got on stage to play a few numbers in relative unison

Also Awesome: one guy playing guitar while two people each played gigantic cross-cut saws with mallets

Neat: Meeting Max, whose band is going to do an upcoming show with FIVE CENT COFFEE

Oops: Inviting Jessica to come to the Fest and then not being able to talk to her because we were hovering over the merchandise table

Surprise: Selling more T-shirts than I ever would have expected

Sad: We have to wait a whole year for the next one

Good: Next year I won't be so NERVOUS!

Yep, I found a REPUTABLE vendor* and finally have STELLA T-shirts.

They're Men's American Apparel Fitted Ts, and seem to fit pretty close to the body, not like some baggy sacklike concert shirts I've been bamboozled into buying and then never wear. Black with white and red logo. In S, M, L, XL, and one or two XXL.

Want one? Let me know what size, and I'll be sure to bring an assortment along next time I'm likely to see you. Prices are extremely flexible. I am open to barter.

You know you want one!

Laundry on a Friday night? How inconceivably dull! Unless you add cold beer, big burgers, and the toe-tapping delights of STELLA and FIVE CENT COFFEE!

Yes indeed, your favorite fearless and drunken musicians will again grace (?) the stage (?) at Brainwash Cafe on Friday, July 7th.

AGITATE to the sounds of FIVE CENT COFFEE, distilling their own brand of twisted junkyard tunes. Ask nice, and you may be able to borrow their washboard to scrub your delicates.

SPIN with delight as your ears are tickled by STELLA, featuring Kelly McCubbin: The Ukulele Apocalypse, and Amy Zing on the saw. Wonder at the pathos and beauty of four strings and a 28-inch Stanley.

FLUFF AND FOLD as these two acts join together for some truly ridiculous and beer-soaked ensemble numbers. (Really, we practiced and everything!)

You may lose a sock, but you'll gain an evening of unforgettable entertainment!

http://www.sawplayers.org/festinfo.html

Kelly and I went last year, and being newbies, we were a little shy about leaping in (although Kelly got to jam a little with Charlie Blacklock on fiddle).

Highlights include:

SATURDAY - AUGUST 12th, 2006, 1pm - JAM at the TOM SCRIBNER STATUE, 1520 Pacific Avenue, Santa Cruz (the sound of two dozen saw players drifted about four blocks down the Avenue, so we knew where we were headed)

SATURDAY - AUGUST 12th, 2006, 6pm - POTLUK/JAM at ROARING CAMP in Felton, CA (this is where Kelly jammed with Charlie Blacklock and we made some new friends)

SUNDAY - AUGUST 13th, 2006, 10am to 6pm - FESTIVAL at ROARING CAMP in Felton, CA (this is where they have the saw-off contest, followed by entertainment on the Main Stage, where we are slated to play this year)

AND there's the Chorus of Saws, where every Saw-Player present seats themselves on the Main Stage and warbles through a dozen songs. It is silly and beautiful and inspiring.

Who's going?

Playing at the Fillmore on Thursday was spectacular -- some of the best performances I've seen out of all of our shows. And hey, The FILLMORE! How cool is that?

Everyone there was super-cool. The sound guy was a bit surprised he'd have to deal with a dozen people and all of their gear, but he was incredibly efficient and helpful. The sound was great, and the audience was enthused.

And a big thanks to Dina, for getting our platform-booted foot in the door.

Uke-y Stardust -- the final contact.

You've seen it, heard about it, dreamt about it and woken up sweaty. Listen up, Star-Children, because this could very well be your last chance to enjoy the beauty, wonder, and downright silliness of Uke-y Stardust.

It's a complete performance of David Bowie's legendary album, "The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars," performed entirely on ukulele. Lots of ukuleles, sometimes. And also some kazoo. And saw. And bass drum. And other stuff. But mostly uke. And until you've seen a bunch of sparkly-dressed goofballs playing and singing their beer-soaked hearts out to "Rock And Roll Suicide," you ain't never gonna get a seat on that starship heading to a better place.

Did I mention it's at the FILLMORE? Yep, the Fillmore. Specifically, the upstairs lounge. And the Fiery Furnaces are playing the main stage, and they are fancy and terrific!

Thursday, June 15th
The Fillmore, Geary & Fillmore, SF
First set at 8:00; second at 9:45.

Note: Yes, you have to buy tickets to the main show, and yes, they are pricey (over $20). And yes, we will be at the mercy of the schedule of the main stage, so we might get a bit squeezed.

Long live Uke-y Stardust!

I mean, really.

I started this tribe as an attempt to connect with other saw players, to learn what the hell I was doing and to find out how other people had dealt with the challenges of coaxing music out of a piece of hardware.

And now it's ME ME ME LOOK AT ME all the time. Don't get me wrong, I love the attention. I love rambling about MY upcoming shows, looking at photos of ME, fielding complements from folks who love ME and MY SAW. I do. But I don't think it should be all ME, all the time.

What else are you guys doing? The other saw-players in here: how's it going? What have you learned? What gives you trouble? Where are you playing? What kind of music do you play? Where did you get the idea to take up such a deadly implement?

Discuss. Please.

I noticed when I played at Chabot, I hit a few "dead spots" on the saw. I touched bow to saw, and got NOTHING -- not a good feeling.

So this last weekend, I bravely (well, tentatively) took sandpaper in hand and gave Stella a good thorough cleaning along the edge. Took off eighteen months of accumulated rosin, tears, sweat, and assorted gunk. Now she's a brand new lady! More resonance, more volume, NO dead spots.

Now I keep a piece of sandpaper in my case at all times, and I won't let her get so gunky again.

Long live Stella!

I managed to take some o.k. shots of Kelly & Amy at the Brainwash show. (Put them in the album) I will have a better camera with me next time.

The Ukulele Apocalypse, Amy Zing, and 5 Cent Coffee are playing at Brainwash!

Hot on the heels of the success of Uke-y Stardust, your favorite off-kilter musicians with day jobs are at it again! Bring your sweetie, your big ears, and your dirty laundry out for a toe-tapping, gut-busting, fluff-and-fold evening of musical delight!

Kelly McCubbin, The Ukulele Apocalypse, (tribes.tribe.net/ukeapocalypse)
may very well be the only uke player to segue from Cliff Edwards to Billy Squier and live to tell the tale.

Amy Zing (mymusicalsaw.tribe.net/), with her trusty saw, Stella, dreams of touring hardware stores across the country, finding the beauty hidden among the mundane.

5 Cent Coffee is an eclectic trio dedicated to organic old fashioned sound; an amalgamation of a by-gone nation, mixed with the fresh scent of a smile or the sound of a lament. Ukulele driven original material with stand-up bass and melodian - throw in a washboard, a kazoo - some junk - an old shoe, wear a grumpy hat, cry a tear or two, and you're there.

Friday, May 12th, 9 PM
Brainwash Cafe, 1122 Folsom St., San Francisco

Yep, she did.

Even though the gorgeous and crafty Kitten made me a beautiful hanky to put on my lap while I play, I must have gotten so off-kilter* at the Uke-y show** that Stella managed to give me a nice little nick on my left thigh. It serves as a sweet reminder of the BEST show I've ever played.***

Now if I could just explain the GIANT GREEN BRUISE on the back of my right arm.
________

*Or, um, drunk.

**Hey, YOU sit on a barstool with your ridiculously big boots propped on an overturned milk crate, singing into one mike and playing saw into another, and try not to let your posture slip.

*** Out of like, five. But still, the best.

Questions about playing live.

So I noticed that playing at DaSilva's Ukulele Company there were NO sound problems at all. No feedback, no screetching noises, no drop-out, nothing. Pure lovely resonant saw-sound, nothing else.

The owner of the place, Mike DaSilva, helped to set up our equipment, and he had the idea to set up one of our microphones UNDER the saw, rather than reaching over it. The mike was completely out of my way (although I think I banged my bow into the vocal mike about 1,000 times), but the sound of the saw was TOTALLY consistent, and gorgeous.

So my question to my fellow saw-players is: How do you configure your equipment to play live? What kind of mikes/amps do you use? How are they set up? How do you get all of the beauty, with none of the anguishing rasp/screetch/godawful noise that comes from doing it wrong?

And once again, "Chim Chiminey" is such a barn-burner. It's one of most fun songs to play, and it always goes over well.

Officially.

Kelly and I have been putting together our numbers for the Uke-y Stardust show. I'll go ahead and spoil the surprise by saying that we're doing "Moonage Daydream," complete with the total cock-rock Mick Ronson solos.... on saw.

So, I'll be damned if my Sweet Boy didn't buy an actual EFFECTS PEDAL for me and Stella. It's adorable, and aqua-colored (my new favorite color), and the idea is that I can switch on the "Total Funky Reverb Echo Freaky Effect Thing" while I am playing.

However, knowing me, I'll want to STOP THE SHOW so that everyone can see that I am pressing down on my fancy effects pedal, with my big boot.

"See this? See this PEDAL? On the FLOOR? It's a really cool FANCY piece of equipment, and now that I'm STEPPING on it, you're all gonna be blown away by the pure FREAKYNESS of it. Did you miss it? With the stepping? On the PEDAL? Okay, I'll do it again."

Hi all,

If you watch MTV... you might catch the new promo for the 'Andy Milonakis Show' (an MTV comedy show for teenagers). It's a 20 second promo that tells fans of the show that it is moving from MTV to MTV2.
We filmed the promo yesterday (despite the transit strike in NYC, which caused major delays).
They gave me a funny hair-do and had me play the saw a-capella in the background, while a 95 year old lady was speaking in the foreground. Andy was goofing around coming in and out of the frame.
I played 'Christmas Morning' (which you can listen to on www.cdBaby.com/paruz) even though the promo will air after Christmas (despite it's name, it's not strictly a Christmas tune).

Also:
If you get the HDnet TV channel (it's National in the USA): I was filmed playing the saw at Penn Station for a show called "Deadline", for the segment about music in the NYC subway.
